My Students

I really am pretty lucky! I get to come to school every day and work with an energetic, creative, motivated group of young people. Our small school setting has the ability to provide the students with hands-on experiences in a welcoming, nurturing environment.

Our children show up each day ready for the challenges ahead of them.

Despite being located in an area of limited means, the faculty and staff never think twice about doing whatever it takes to make our students successful.

My Project

Being in middle school is never easy, and these days it is only getting harder. As a teacher, I look for literature that will foster conversations and get my students looking beyond themselves, to the world around them. My ultimate goal is to educate a generation of socially conscious young adults.

Literature needs to be able to build bridges between the diverse populations of our classrooms.

When using these novels, I will be able to facilitate some of those difficult conversations and inspire my students to be more tolerant of other's differences. Creating a sense of social justice and understanding is crucial in our world.

These award winning novels will help me in this endeavor.
