We want our students to appreciate their natural environment. The more they understand about the plants, trees and animals that live in their area, the more they will want to protect them. We hope these materials will give our students an opportunity to get out and study nature, then do something special to give back. A love of nature, that starts at a young age, can last a lifetime! To that end, we would like our students to spend time at a local state park, collecting and identifying leaves, plants and flowers. We would also like them to observe, sketch and journal about the animal life. The students will use the Naturalist Guides to match local flora and fauna and record their findings. The give back will come when we return to the park on a second occasion to do some cleanup and hopefully plant a tree or some wild flowers. The gloves will be very helpful during this part of our community service project. They will be used for both, trash cleanup and planting.
