My Project

Second graders love to listen to stories. They love to look at picture books! Independent reading is a giant hurdle that is a year-long goal in my class. Sadly, my school library mainly has picture books and chapter books that would be more appropriate for 5th and 6th graders. My goal is to bridge the gap between picture books and chapter books to develop independent readers.

These book sets and series packs will motivate and encourage my second graders to start reading and keep reading independently.

We will first use the sets of books in literature circles. Students will take on different responsibilities as they read and discuss the books with their groups. My goal is to then inspire the students to pick up the additional books in the series for independent reading. These books will be housed in my classroom library each year for many years of students to enjoy.
