Literacy Night & Read-A-Thon Books for Middle Schoolers

My Project

In a few weeks, we are having a school-wide literacy event that includes a Read-a-Thon during the school day and a Literacy Night gathering after school. At this event, we are hoping to help students and their families find different ways to easily access books, develop reading goals, and get excited about books. With games, pizza, and prizes, we'll get student talking with local booksellers and librarians, and we'll be ensuring students and families are able to access and navigate the public library accounts that all students automatically receive (but often don't know they have access to).

In hopes of fostering community around reading and building excitement, we are requesting sets of new and exciting middle grade books that students form their own book clubs around with friends and/or family.

After all, one of the best ways of understanding text and developing literacy skills comes from having someone to talk to about our reading! All of these middle grades titles have been published within the past year or so and are books that are most likely to have long waits at the library. These books also represent a variety of genres, perspectives, cultures, and themes meant to appeal to as wide of a range of student readers as possible.

Your donation will support our school-wide event and will positively impact the reading lives of students and families across our middle school. It will also help encourage students to form reading communities outside of their classrooms spaces and organically engage in texts at a higher thinking level!
