They are learning how to solve problems by working with others, how to persevere building things with their hands, problem solving and how to make their ideas reality. They do not even realize they are doing math (measurement, symmetry, revising, size)! So many benefits like spatial reasoning, fine motor control, creativity, focus, and social-emotional growth (teamwork, patience), all while boosting their confidence and laying foundations for future learning through hands-on experimentation and imaginative construction. All of these hands-on activities are great ways for the students to understand that learning and education are not just in books! It makes a significant impact to be able to feel the connection to the natural world, even while we are indoors.\r\nOur existing rug in the classroom was oval. It was hard for students to know where their spot was as well as their personal space, which led to many arguments. Once we received the stone/wood, rectangular rug the students were very excited! They could visually see which rock was their spot while imagining their personal space bubbles because the overall shape made more sense. This rug has made my life so much easier to give assigned seating, make the seating charts and show visuals for them to find their spots for different subjects. It is a life saver when I have had to leave seating charts for substitutes.\r\n\r\nThe green rug has been the students favorite spot! Students spotted it and immediately understood that I was trying to create a green space similar to grass. \"Touch grass!\" students repeatedly exclaim on a regular basis. \r\nTo top off both of the joy with the rugs, the vacuum allows us to keep them both clean and in great shape for continuous use. Vacuuming is a student job that they rotate through and is a great way for them to learn responsibility. \r\nWe truly appreciate all that you have done to make this dream of bringing the outdoors indoors. Students are noticeably able to relax in these spaces while focusing on their education and their connections with each other.","fullyFundedDate":1758221611104,"projectUrl":"project/bringing-the-outdoors-inside/9515765/","projectTitle":"Bringing the Outdoors Inside!","teacherDisplayName":"Dr. Bautista","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-5_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10100548"},{"teacherId":9355845,"projectId":9747924,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for providing our team with math-focused materials that have already made a significant impact on students' learning and daily routines. Your generosity has helped create a more structured, engaging, and supportive math environment for all of our middle school learners.\r\n\r\nWhen the shipment arrived, the students' excitement was immediate. Even though middle schoolers often try not to show enthusiasm, they couldn't hide it this time. As soon as they saw the binders, dividers, and the new whiteboards with number lines, they were eager to begin using them. Many students started organizing their math materials right away—sorting worksheets, creating labeled sections for notes and practice, and setting up their binders in ways that will help them stay organized throughout the year. Having these tools has already led to fewer misplaced assignments and smoother transitions between activities. \r\n\r\nThe whiteboards with number lines have quickly become some of the most valuable resources in the classroom. They have been especially helpful during math warm-ups and guided practice, allowing students to visualize relationships, compare values, and better understand distance and direction. \r\n\r\nYour generosity has made all of this possible. The materials you provided have strengthened organization, supported visual reasoning, and made math more accessible and engaging for every learner. Thanks to your support, our students have received a fantastic selection of math books that are already making a profound impact. Your contribution has helped foster a deeper curiosity for math and created a richer learning environment for our students.\r\n\r\nThe impact of these books goes beyond just offering engaging content. They have ignited a spark of curiosity and excitement about mathematics in our classroom. Previously, many of our students viewed math as a series of abstract concepts that were difficult to understand or connect with. However, through the stories and real-life applications presented in the books, they now see math as something that can be fun, accessible, and full of opportunities for exploration. Students are more motivated than ever to ask questions, explore mathematical ideas, and approach problems with a sense of wonder rather than fear.\r\n\r\nOne of the key ways these books have enriched our learning is by providing background and context for word problems. Often, students struggle with math word problems because they don't have the vocabulary or background knowledge to understand the situations being described. With these new resources, students are able to connect the math they are learning to real-world scenarios and everyday experiences. The stories and examples within the books have made math problems more relatable, and as a result, our students are developing a stronger ability to both interpret and solve word problems. It has been incredible to witness their growing confidence in this area.\r\n\r\nMoreover, the books have become an essential tool for our upcoming Family Math Night event. This event aims to show families how they can \"read\" and \"do math\" together in an engaging and supportive way. Traditionally, many families feel unsure about how to support their children in math because of the perceived difficulty of the subject or the language barrier that can arise with math terminology. These books, with their clear explanations and approachable tone, will be the perfect resource for demonstrating how math can be a shared experience at home. Through interactive reading and problem-solving activities, families will be able to work together to tackle math challenges, creating a more comfortable, collaborative environment for learning. We believe this will not only boost students' confidence in math but also empower families to engage with their children's learning in a positive and meaningful way.\r\n\r\nThe books you helped provide have had a lasting impact on both our students and their families. The excitement surrounding math is growing, and the connections students are making between math and their daily lives are invaluable. The learning that is happening in our classroom is more than just about solving problems; it's about fostering a mindset that math is something to be explored, understood, and celebrated.\r\n\r\nOnce again, thank you for making this possible. Your support has been instrumental in enhancing our students' learning experience and helping them develop the skills and mindset they need to succeed in math and beyond.","fullyFundedDate":1759371347086,"projectUrl":"project/tales-that-count/9722921/","projectTitle":"Tales That Count!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Mizuta","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9355845_orig.png?crop=399,399,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1701106764919","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9355845"},{"teacherId":6810718,"projectId":9076264,"letterContent":"This project enhances our classroom by introducing a variety of makerspace and sensory materials designed to inspire creativity, hands-on learning, and inclusion.
