Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Kindergarten students at my school are exceptionally motivated to take charge of their own learning! They have been working hard all year on their reading and math skills, and are in need of learning games and materials to use during their "independent centers".

After a student has been taught a skill by their teacher, it is important for them to have time to explore and practice these skills by themselves; this is where independent centers come into play.

The Lakeshore Learning games and materials included on my wish list are all activities that focus on specific kindergarten standards and are CCSS aligned. They are fun, engaging, and educational. While some students are working in small groups with me or another teacher, other students will have the opportunity to choose from some of the math or literacy games. The choice aspect of this design, coupled with the fact that the games build skills they have already learned, allows them to build confidence and take ownership of their education.

We currently have a limited amount of these types of activities and are in need of more. The students absolutely love free choice centers, and I believe their social and academic success will be improved through the use of more materials like the ones listed on my wish list.
