My Students

I am privileged to teach 8th grade language arts. My students are bright, motivated children with a thirst for knowledge. My students come from many different communities and have a range of interests. Each student brings something new to the table. All have the ability to do amazing things with the right support.

My Project

This past year, reading teachers at our school saw that students engaged more with texts when they had a personal copy to take home and study. I want to continue to provide students with copies of our novel studies this year so that students can begin to build their personal libraries.

The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, based on the author's experiences, along with cartoon drawings that reflect the character's art, tells the story of Junior, a budding cartoonist growing up on the Spokane Indian Reservation.

In reading this, our hope is that students will explore identity, traditions, relationships and the impact of their choices. I am excited for students to engage with this text and hope you will consider donating!
