This past year, reading teachers at our school saw that students engaged more with texts when they had a personal copy to take home and study. I want to continue to provide students with copies of our novel studies this year so that students can begin to build their personal libraries. The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, based on the author's experiences, along with cartoon drawings that reflect the character's art, tells the story of Junior, a budding cartoonist growing up on the Spokane Indian Reservation. In reading this, our hope is that students will explore identity, traditions, relationships and the impact of their choices. I am excited for students to engage with this text and hope you will consider donating!
