My Project

This initiative is designed to strengthen the mathematical foundation and fluency skills of sixth-grade students at a Title I school, where 64% of our students are performing two or more grade levels below in math, and 40% are students with disabilities.

Our goal is to close learning gaps by integrating Literacy in Math—a program that uses interactive, skill-building games to reinforce both mathematical and literacy development.

These resources will not only help students retain essential math skills but also build confidence and critical thinking through meaningful, hands-on engagement.

Many of our students struggle to connect with traditional instruction methods. By incorporating literacy activities that focus on key areas such as numbers and operations, algebra and algebraic thinking, measurement and data, and geometry, students will strengthen their understanding of essential math concepts while improving their reading and problem-solving skills.

We aim to foster both academic progress and enjoyment in learning.

The laminator will be used to preserve classroom resources and allow students to write directly on cards, erase, and reuse them for continued practice. The file folder games for grades 4–5 provide games that review comprehensive skills for those grade levels, which is especially important since 64% of the students have demonstrated being more than two grade levels below. Smath and other grade-level games will emphasize core content, allowing scholars who are working at grade level to engage more independently. Flash cards and other hands-on materials will help students develop problem-solving strategies while strengthening both their mathematical and literacy skills.

The expected outcomes of this project include improved literacy skills while reading math problems, increased student motivation and participation, improved math fluency and conceptual understanding, enhanced problem-solving and reasoning abilities, and a stronger foundation in both mathematics and academic language.
