My Students

I am an early childhood special education teacher in North Minneapolis, Minnesota.

We are a school community that tends to be viewed as underprivileged and disadvantaged; however, my students are amazingly smart, sensitive, kind, and hardworking individuals.

My students with disabilities are very capable of learning within the general education classroom.

I teach students with disabilities how to use strategies and tools to participate with their non-disabled peers.

My Project

I am requesting books that follow early childhood themes for learning. Early Childhood learning centers around themes students experience in real life: food, winter, animals, etc. To introduce students to new themes, we need more books that center around each theme. The books in this project will be used for daily read alouds during our upcoming themes of winter, food and animals. We need many books about the same ideas so students can experience the same concepts over and over again in a new way. These books will also help students make connections between the world around them and the learning in our classroom.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
