This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I love to see my students achieve greatness. It's rewarding to see them desire to learn more and be accepting of different cultures through literature and through their peers. It is even more rewarding to see students invent new things and exercise their critical thinking skills through mathematics.
My students are growing and learning in the same small, tight-knit school community that inspired me to be a teacher.
They are dreamers, thinkers, talkers, and questioners. They are mini inspirations to themselves and others around them, even if they don't know it yet. They are budding ambassadors, world travelers, scientists, entrepreneurs, doctors, and teachers. They are our future, and I want to give them a fair and great start to their long successful career.
My Project
These materials will help my students foster their passion for reading. My students need a leveled library to allow them to find books in their comfort zone and also books from their instructional level. By reading books students will be able to develop necessary foundational literacy skills needed for all content levels.
“It is not enough to simply teach children to read; we have to give them something worth reading.
Something that will stretch their imaginations, something that will help them make sense of their own lives and encourage them to reach out toward people whose lives are quite different from their own.” - Katherine Patterson
