Before this gift, our students were limited to traditional pencils and basic watercolors. Your contribution immediately transformed our studio, providing a professional-grade tool that offers the versatility of paint with the precision of a marker. This was more than just a donation of supplies; it was an investment in our students' potential and a direct answer to their growing desire for more expressive, high-impact art tools.\r\n\r\nThe true magic of the Posca markers allowed our students to truly bring their creativity to life. These markers allowed artists to layer colors, work on unique surfaces, and achieve bold, solid color fields that were previously impossible. Students who struggled with the messiness of paint found confidence and control with the marker tips, enabling them to execute detailed designs on a variety of surfaces, including paper, cardboard, canvas, and even a couple desks (oops). \r\n\r\nBecause of your remarkable generosity, our students got to explore an entirely new medium that expanded their artistic horizons. This wasn't simply an upgrade to our current materials; it was the creation of a brand-new art pathway. Thank you for making this exploration possible. Your support directly fostered a deeper appreciation for diverse art materials and helped demonstrate to our young artists that their dreams of creating bold, impactful work are achievable.","fullyFundedDate":1746541700473,"projectUrl":"project/posca-power-paintings-that-reflect-who/9097687/","projectTitle":"Posca Power! We have had the opportunity to open and unpack the materials we received, and the excitement around it was amazing. We had the opportunity to unbox the badminton nets with the help of several different classes, and the students really enjoyed seeing what we received and hearing about the ways we were planning on integrating the materials into our gym class.\r\n\r\nThe activities looked different across different grade levels. The younger students found a lot of excitement opening up the rackets and birdies and choosing favorite colors of each to work with. They spent time learning and practicing making contact with the birdies by themselves, and trying to hit back and forth with partners. they even had an opportunity to work with and learn from some of the older students. The older students really loved helping to set up the new nets we got, and were eager to get started on games right away. Some of them chose to play competitive games with heated competition and serious score keeping. Others chose a more relaxed style of play, choosing to volley and rally back and forth with each other.\r\n\r\nThis coming week sees us change classes for the next quarter, so a whole new group of students will have the chance to learn, practice and explore the game of Badminton over the course of several weeks this term. Even though this section of students won't have the opportunity to unbox the equipment I know they will be just as excited about being able to use the new nets and rackets your thoughtful donations helped us acquire for the school! \r\n\r\nWe are also excited about being able to set up the nets and use the equipment for the next couple of family nights we have at the school. As the weather improves, and we can move activities outdoors, badminton will a perfect way for families and staff to connect at our family engagement nights.\r\n\r\nThank you again for your donations, and for creating incredible opportunities for fun and active learning to occur in our PE classes!","fullyFundedDate":1736726596469,"projectUrl":"project/bodacious-badminton-bonanza/9038186/","projectTitle":"Bodacious Badminton Bonanza!","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Jesser","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/5414862"},{"teacherId":470112,"projectId":8770965,"letterContent":"I wanted to thank you so very much for your donation. With your contribution, the ESL (English as a Second Language) Department at the Lee K-8 School in Dorchester was able to get the colored ink it so desperately needed. Color printouts and photos help our English Language Learners gain the skills necessary to be successful in their academics and beyond.\r\n\r\nOur school has over 550 students, with over 30% of those students considered English Language Learners. In addition, we have 30 students who are newcomers to the country (here for one year or less) and need the highest amount of support to learn academic English in their classrooms. Because of our student population, we rely heavily on visuals to support all of our English Learners in the academic classes, which are taught in English. \r\n\r\nBefore we received this donation, we relied on a black and white printer that was low on ink, and a color printer that was completely out of ink, with no money in the budget for replacement supplies. In addition, we relied on two copy machines which were out of order more than half of the time and, when they were in service, copies were grainy, light, and streaky. Your contribution has enabled the most visual-reliant students to access bright, crisp, color copies of documents necessary to their English language development. \r\n\r\nYou have truly made a difference to the 6 ESL teachers and 170 English language learners in our school community. We are using the new resources as monthly incentive prizes for students with top attendance. We are finding this to be a motivation for our students to continue working hard to attend school regularly. When students who receive these prizes return back to their classrooms, other students ask them about it and then become motivated to improve their own attendance, so they can also potentially earn this incentive. This is also a great opportunity for students to be congratulated by their peers. These attendance prizes are also helping students to see the correlation between regular attendance and positive impact. They are a concrete way for students to feel proud of their attendance accomplishments.\r\n\r\nOur students were so excited when they saw all the prizes. Their eyes lit up and they had big smiles on their faces. One student in particular commented on how he is a leader in the school and that \"hard work pays off\"! It was wonderful to see how proud our students felt to be recognized for their hard work and commitment to being in school. Another student commented on how excited he was to play basketball with his younger siblings with his new ball. The sensory kits with kinetic sand were a big hit! Students couldn't wait to show their prizes to their friends in their classrooms and their families at home. \r\n\r\nOur next steps are to continue motivating students (and families) to attend school regularly.
