My Project

The books requested through this project will make a meaningful difference in my self-contained special education classroom by increasing student engagement, building foundational literacy skills, and supporting students' social-emotional development. My students learn best through repeated, interactive experiences with high-interest texts. By adding engaging titles such as A Little SPOT of Feelings, Pete the Cat, Llama Llama, and Don't Let the Pigeon books with some plush characters, I will be able to create an inviting classroom library that encourages students to explore books independently and develop a love of reading.

These books will help to strengthen phonemic awareness, vocabulary, comprehension, and communication skills Many of the stories provide opportunities for repeated reading, predictable text, songs, and interactive discussions that are especially beneficial for students with diverse learning needs.

The A Little SPOT of Feelings series will help students recognize, understand, and express their emotions while developing important social skills that carry over into the classroom and everyday life which are specific IEP goals of many of the students in my classroom.

The goal of this project is to create an engaging literacy environment where students are excited to read, participate in meaningful language activities, and build both academic and social-emotional skills. Through consistent exposure to high-quality children's literature, students will increase their confidence, communication, and participation during classroom instruction.

My students are special because they have a wide range of learning, communication, and developmental needs that require individualized instruction and multiple opportunities for hands-on, engaging learning experiences. Many benefit from visual supports, repetition, and highly motivating materials to remain engaged and make meaningful progress. These books will provide accessible, inclusive learning opportunities that meet students where they are while fostering a lifelong love of learning.
