My 6th graders are enthusiastic about learning. My classroom consists of children from all different cultural backgrounds, areas, and incomes.
Their achievements are also my achievements.
Some of my students took an academic hit when they went virtual last year. This created a big learning gap. My goal as their teacher is to help them close this gap so they can be on the path to a successful academic trajectory. Overall, these are problem solvers who are motivated to become leaders instead of followers. Every day they walk in with a smile on their face, excited about what the day will bring. They are hard workers who are very involved with meeting their academic goals. They love learning new things just as much as I love teaching them!
My Project
In ELA, there is a vast amount of reading, and even more so, writing. My school is not one-to-one technology, which means students have to share Chromebooks. This can be very frustrating for students because they have to wait for their turn to do their projects, research, essays, etc.
These 6th-grade students were virtually learning for over a year during COVID.
They grew accustomed to using technology one hundred percent of the time to do their assignments, which they succeeded at.
Now, they have returned to the classroom, but instead of moving forward with technology to keep their momentum, they are given paper and pencil to do assignments. The students dislike this very much and it is difficult to keep them engaged when they have to do worksheets. However, when given technological devices their faces light up with excitement. They are eager to do the assignments and share their masterpieces with the class.
