Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come from a variety of backgrounds. Our nearly 650 students, represent countries from all over the world. Students come to us with a variety of experiences. I want to be able to provide all of them with books that they will enjoy.
The students are eager and excited to learn.
For many students, reading for pleasure is not something they see themselves doing. As the librarian, I feel a need to be able to provide a wide range of books that will appeal to all of our students.
My Project
I strive to provide a good selection of books at all reading levels, for a variety of ages and interests. Due to cuts in the library budget this has become increasingly challenging.
Many of our students are new to this country and still learning English.
I want them to be able to access grade level text, that their peers are reading.
Often listening skills, in a new language, are acquired before reading skills, so by providing a variety of audio books, they will be able to access books that interest them.
I want the school library to be the place everyone can come and find a book they are able to enjoy.
