Listen Up!

Help me give my students a listening center with headphones and books of various titles at different reading levels on CDs. These books will consist of fiction and non-fiction titles that the kids will love!

My Students

My students come from a variety of backgrounds and each has a unique way of learning. They like to move, they love hands-on lessons and love lots of positive attention. Many of them are considered middle class as their socioeconomic status. Many of my students are active learners and love to move around the room. This can sometimes interrupt learning and may prevent them from getting ahead early in life. From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom, I focus on their potential and growth while doing this in a creative and positive way. My goal is reaching all of their learning needs.

My Project

Our district uses Accelerate Reader program. This program helps monitor the practice of reading. It allows the teacher to assess students to find their proper reading level. It suggests books that are level appropriate for each student. By having a listening center I will be able to have books available to help my struggling readers.

Currently, I have limited audio books in my classroom.

The books that I do have are above my struggling students reading level. I do not have a CD player that works properly and I do not have audio books on CDs, they are old fashioned cassette tapes, therefore my students are unable to listen to books on CDs.

My listening center will consist of items that I have listed below, such as a CD player, various titles of books that are both fiction and non-fiction, a cassette converter that will convert my cassettes to MP3 and cDs that go along with the book titles I have selected. Titles such as, The Magic School Bus Inside the Human Body, Chicks and Chickens, Elephants of Africa and Amelia Bedelia.
