Our district uses Accelerate Reader program. This program helps monitor the practice of reading. It allows the teacher to assess students to find their proper reading level. It suggests books that are level appropriate for each student. By having a listening center I will be able to have books available to help my struggling readers. Currently, I have limited audio books in my classroom. The books that I do have are above my struggling students reading level. I do not have a CD player that works properly and I do not have audio books on CDs, they are old fashioned cassette tapes, therefore my students are unable to listen to books on CDs. My listening center will consist of items that I have listed below, such as a CD player, various titles of books that are both fiction and non-fiction, a cassette converter that will convert my cassettes to MP3 and cDs that go along with the book titles I have selected. Titles such as, The Magic School Bus Inside the Human Body, Chicks and Chickens, Elephants of Africa and Amelia Bedelia.
