Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school and my class serves a very diverse population. In my class there are students from Honduras, Nicaragua, Dominican Republic, Brazil, Syria, Columbia, Bangladesh, and Venezuela . Some of these are not just new to the United States but some have never been in a school.
The school also serves homeless and a residential treatment center for domestic violence and drug/alcohol abuse.
So not only are there needs with language, there are some intense emotional requirements that some of our students are withstanding.
Most students, do not have computers at home. So it is essential that they utilize the available technology in class. The problem is most lack the necessary headphones to concentrate on their computer program. I am asking for a class set pf headphones for classroom usage.
My Project
The majority of the students are economically challenged, to have their own headset would truly be a luxury for them, Currently we are sharing about 2 headsets, which can best be described as shabby. The ear cushions are torn, the wires are beginning to fray, and overall I am surprised that they still function. At times they do not work because the input jack portion has to be positioned just so for the set to operate; this creates a great deal of wasted instructional time along with seriously frustrated students and teacher. To have a clean, functioning headset, I truly believe that it will positively impact my students academic experience
