Lights, Camera, Yearbook: Take Two!

My students need new lights to brighten up our portraits and new canvas for brilliantly painted backdrops!

My Students

We just finished our first made-from-scratch yearbook, and we're already thinking of next year! To make next year even better, we need better lighting and new canvas for our awesome backdrops.

Our school has a diverse population.

We are a Title I school with 90% of our students on free and reduced lunch. We are full of energy and excited about our art class (where we make the yearbook.) Our 80 upcoming 5th grade students are full of hope, pride, and can't wait to be part of the 2010-2011 yearbook.

My Project

The yearbook for the 2010-2011 school year is going to be awesome! We learned a lot from our inception year (2009-2010) and know that we need a few supplies and equipment to make our dreams possible. First, we need some new canvas. We work collaboratively to create an expressive painted backdrop for the student portraits. It's really fun to paint with acrylics on canvas. It makes us feel like REAL artists! Then, we set up our backdrops in a corner- what we call the photography studio. We take every student's portrait with the camera and tripod we received from another DonorsChoose.org grant (Lights, Camera, Yearbook! #379181.) We would really like to capture our subjects in a better light- which is where the new lights come in!

This project is great for our entire school!

If the 5th graders (and the art teacher) didn't create our yearbook, we wouldn't have one at all. Working together to make such an important product is something we will remember forever (especially because we can look through the yearbook we made to help us remember!)
