We have also learned about the \"3 R's and how using a refillable water bottle can help benefit the earth. This is a great teaching moment for our students as well. \r\n\r\nMy students were so excited to receive this package in the mail and see that it contained a water bottle for each student to use daily at school. What a great memory to see the excitement on their faces. The noise-reducing headphones are creating a much more enjoyable lunchtime experience for our students who need them. Our school has a beautiful cafeteria, but the acoustics in the large space are not ideal for kiddos who struggle with loud noise. Earlier in the year we noticed an uptick in behavior escalations and students who had trouble transitioning back to class after being in \"sensory overload\" during lunch. After noticing the difference headphones made for one student, we knew that this impact could be greater if more students had access to them.\r\nWe spent the month of January teaching all students about the purpose of the headphones and expectations when using them. We emphasized that not all students will need them, but all students do have access to them. Our teachers have been contentious about noticing if a student in their room could benefit and proactive in accessing a pair when needed. The aquarium is a huge hit with my kiddos and i have since bought one more and my district provided me with another. It really helps to redirect them and calm them when they are overstimulated or dysregulated. The bean bags give them a space to relax and regroup when they need to. The bean bags are very big also which helps them to sink into. My students are utilizing the calming space so much more now that we have all of these items. We are having less meltdowns and more calm times where they can take a break and get themselves together. It has also improved their academics because they are better able to focus after they regulate themselves. I could not have accomplished all of this without your help.
