Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school has adopted a culture of safety, respect, and responsibility where students take part in managing their own behavior. By teaching our expectations explicitly, our students know what behavior is acceptable here. These character traits are very important in the science lab as well; it is much easier to do the "fun stuff" when you can trust your students.
The sixth, seventh, and eighth graders here are already learning to be conscientious scientists in the classroom and in the lab, but now it is time to share their knowledge with the world.
They come from diverse backgrounds, but many have never been out of state. Including exploration and technology in our classroom allows our kids to travel beyond our classroom walls. When they begin asking deep questions and provide multiple answers they begin to direct their own learning.
My Project
My students are learning many different concepts in science. One of the things they are the most excited about is sharing their findings. As we work through making claims based on evidence and revising our ideas, students need a way to document their changing understandings of the phenomena in the natural world.
In this time of YouTube and social media, my students need a way to publish and showcase what they have learned.
By funding this project, you will set up a small video studio where all students will have a chance to present their "news" in the most modern format. Green screen technology, lighting, and an easy-to-use camera will put students in the director's chair, in the editing booth, and on air. We are looking forward to producing our own science knowledge show and some other school-positive videos to share with the campus.
