Every day our routine is the same: find a seat, join your group, find your book and enjoy the first 10 minutes to dive in and read. My students enjoy the choice, the calm, and the routine, knowing that reading can transport them out of their powerful emotions and challenges, if they are troubled, and create in them a sense of peace. I often have older students return saying how much they miss it and how much they loved just having time to read.\r\n\r\nIn this project, we created 4 opportunities (live zoom meets) for each class to have a live meeting with the author/illustrator and Feb. 4 was a fantastic day in our class history. We loved meeting each writer and each one told their own unique story. Each author invited students to ask questions, giving honest reactions and answers to their inquisitive questions. It was fun to hear them speak and read from their books and my students were able to see what the day in the life of a writer looks like.
