These materials will help my students learn through hands on creative lessons. They will be able to develop a model to describe the cycling of Earth’s materials and the flow of energy that drives this process. This will allow them to have a visual and hands on learning experience. This is very important when learning science concepts. Scientific models give students the ability to understand concepts that they do not have the ability to see or experience. These materials will give my students the opportunity to explain their thinking in a creative way. The students will use chart paper, markers, and crayons to show what they know about the earth and its cycles. They will use these items to draw diagrams of the cycling of earth's materials in their science journals and on chart paper. Students will use the hotplate for various inquiry projects where heating is involved. Students will also use the tape provided to adhere various reference items in their science journals. They will also use the rock and mineral set to identify the different processes of melting, crystallization, weathering, deformation, and sedimentation, which act together to form minerals and rocks through the cycling of Earth’s materials. This model is important because students will be able to understand what happens beneath earth's surface. They will explore the energy flow of earth materials by participating in hands on experiences with the rock and mineral set. Using what they have learned about the rocks and minerals they will elaborate on their learning with the chart paper, markers, crayons and in their science journals.
