Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

I teach bright students who did not have an ideal upbringing. Most of my pupils are from low socioeconomic communities but are determined to make the best of what life offers.

I am fortunate to be teaching very talented young students who are passionate about their education.

Although in High School, these students take college level courses to earn an Associate Degree by the time they graduate from High School.

This project guides students to build a conductivity tester and then use the tester to light up Christmas Lights using various ionic solutions. Students are usually very happy to build their own conductivity testers.

My Project

Students will build the conductivity tester in class but if each student can have their own tester(battery), students could bring the tester home to check which solutions from home can conduct electricity. The most common ionic solution is salt water. Student will be able to classify substances as ionic or covalent based on their ability to light Christmas lights.

Aluminum foil is rolled into tubes and connected to the positive and negative terminals of the batteries.

The mortar and pestles will be used to crush rocky salts into powder to be dissolved in water for the tests.
