Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Most students coming to school are from a low socioeconomic area, or come from a military family, where a parent is deployed and/or may be absent during the school year. Some of my students are second language learners. We are located in southwestern Arizona near the Mexico border.
Despite the many challenges my students may face daily, they come to school and they are eager to learn.
My students love STEM activities and thrive on lessons that build higher achievement. They laugh, They play, and they explore in my class through opportunities that build success and achievement.
My Project
The students in my class will be participating in a very special project this holiday season. My students are the school ambassadors and the student technology leaders on campus. They will be building an electric light float and marching in the electric light parade on our mainstreet. They are in need of special supplies to make it all happen and come to life.
My students are leaders at school and overjoyed to be collaborating and on this exciting STEM project that will be lighting up our holiday season.
Flexible seating in our new makerspace will help collaboration and ideas flow easier. The LED gloves will allow them to stay warm in the parade and bulb necklaces will help them be seen as well. They will use critical thinking skills to make a sign out of the red rope lights to light up their musical themed float. The inflatable guitars and music notes will decorate the float as part of the "performing arts" theme for the parade this year.
The materials you provide will make a difference because they will allow my students to participate in an event they would not have been able to be a part of otherwise. My students are excited about their project and happy to come to school daily to plan, collaborate and work with their peers to build and be engineers on a project that makes them proud. Excitement in education is what makes my students successful!
