Life Skills Cooking and Meal Prep

Help me give my students the opportunity to learn and practice cooking skills needed in life as they prepare for life skills.

My Project

I have a self contained class for students with Autism. My students are mostly non-verbal but love to be involved in activities that deal with cooking and meal prepusing a microwave, hand mixer and baking set. I even have some students who when given a preferred activity, will choose to watch cooking videos. We have an advanced Culinary class at our school but my students have the need to learn to prepare simple meals at home. My plan is to choose a simple recipe to cook with my students each week. We will go as a group to do the shopping for the ingredients and practice the skills of shopping for food and money management. We will then prepare the recipe together in with simple steps learning safety and hygiene as we go. We will also prepare together a recipe binder for each student to add their lessons each week. My goal is that when they graduate, they will have many recipes and the skills needed to prepare them independently or with minimal help.
