My Project

This summer, I have reflected on some new ideas that I could bring to my classroom in order to build both the community skills and the work skills of my students with mild-severe needs. Thus, the Community Cabinet was born.

This Community Cabinet is intended to be used for any student at Chapel Hill 7 & 8 Grade Center to be able to access some essential supplies, should their families find themselves on hard times and be unable to provide some of those supplies.

Those supplies range from basic school materials such as pencils, pens, backpacks, folders, notebooks, binders, headphones, etc. to basic hygiene products that they may not have at home such as a toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, brush/comb, shampoo/conditioner, feminine hygiene products, etc.

Once supplies have arrived, the cabinet will be available for staff to place an “order” for any supplies that we have in stock that they think would benefit any student(s) in their classrooms. This “order” will be completed discretely and only the teacher making the order will know the recipient’s name. Once I receive an order from another teacher, my students will then begin filling the order and packaging it to be delivered throughout the building. The cabinet itself will be completely ran by my students. They will be stocking, filling, inventorying, and doing the delivering.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
