Having used my personal Apple devices (iphone and personal ipad) in the classroom, I know that there is no substitute to promote independent student success. With these devices, students who have never previously had a voice now have the ability to communicate in full sentences as well as indicate a picture of their want or need. Students who have had a difficult time identifying and using numbers functionally are now using verbal calculator apps to hear the numbers as they are typing them, to reinforce their knowledge. With the iPad, struggling or non-readers will have the opportunity to independently choose a text and have the device read the content, and interact with the text through the iOS capabilities. Similarly, the Apple app market has apps available that allow students who cannot functionally communicate with other people to do so independently through a variety of text and/or picture apps.
