My students are early childhood learners in K4 classrooms. They attend a very culturally diverse school in the inner city of Milwaukee, WI. Our school ranges from K3 through 8th grade, with roughly five hundred students.
Each child comes to school eager and ready to be challenged and learn on a regular basis.
Unfortunately, due to budgeting, we have lost funds, and it has taken a toll on our classroom materials and resources. Regardless of the money, the students themselves are worth every cent.
My Project
This proposed project will help provide students in my classroom with everyday basis necessities that they don’t have. There are several homeless and high poverty families within my classroom that come to school without being prepared. Several of them rely on school just to provide them with a meal, and a safe place to be. The request is for items such as food to send home with them to assist with the lack of food, or places to keep refrigerated food items. Some of the others are items that are necessary to help with hygiene and keep them clean, such as some simple clean clothes to wear, and umbrellas to keep them dry. In addition, there are bedding sets to provide a clean and warm place to sleep. These are all things that many people have as basic needs and on a regular basis, but for many of my families they are luxuries. This project will address the urgent needs of the students by providing materials so they can come to school with self-confidence, equipped to learn and set up for success.
