My Students

As a teacher at a school in the heart of Manhattan, my students are diverse in every sense of the word. They hail from all over world, practice many different religions, speak many languages, and have an array of experiences.

Their differences make for a rich learning environment, which is only elevated by their drive to be the best version of themselves that they can possibly be.

My 4th graders work hard and push themselves in their own learning and strive to support each other.

My Project

Fourth grade is a very exciting year for reading. Students are just beginning to strengthen their inferential comprehension and attack texts that contain real-world issues. It seems that each year a plethora of new titles come out that students can't wait to get their hands on and it's hard to keep up!

With this in mind, at the end of the school year I asked my students a simple question: What books did you wish we had in our classroom library this year?

Students were excited to share their responses with me and their replies came flooding in - even from the most reluctant readers. When students know that there are books they want to read in the classroom, there is a "buzz" around reading. They can't wait to get their hands on certain titles and consequently are more engaged in their reading. Having a classroom full of engaged and excited readers leads to increased progress in reading over the course of the year!
