Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a middle school Theater and English teacher. My 8th grade ELA students are sometimes hesitant to read, and I would like to give them a safe space to read when they need a break, or just want to curl up with a good book.
I hope to inspire a love of reading in all my students with a fun and meaningful classroom library.
I will start with copies of books that made me into an avid reader, and fill out the library with books specifically requested by my students, to ensure they want to read.
I love teaching both theater and English, and hope to give my students the confidence to be themselves, and start them on the path toward effective communication and presentation, and develop a love of reading!
My Project
Many of my students have difficulty reading. In an effort to increase comprehension, and introduce the idea of reading for pleasure, I want to create a library space in my classroom. This is something that many middle school rooms do not have. The library nook will give them a safe space to read books they want to read when they have downtime, or simply need a break.
The library will include books that students request to read for fun, as well as a listening area for those in need of a differentiated option for reading.
The library will begin a reading for pleasure movement in my classroom.
