My Project

This fall, we are launching a leadership book club for our high school football team to help student-athletes grow as leaders, learners, and role models on and off the field. Inspired by the successful "Librarian in the Huddle" model, this project is designed to show our players that leadership and literacy go hand in hand. We are requesting 85 copies of Trust the Grind by Jeremy Bhandari — a book that shares lessons from elite athletes about discipline, perseverance, and excellence. Through small group discussions, players will connect what they read to real-world goals like improving their performance, supporting their teammates, and preparing for life beyond sports.

This project is about more than just reading a book; it's about giving our athletes the tools to reflect, set goals, and build skills that will carry them through every part of their lives — in college, careers, and their communities.

By working together through the lens of leadership, we will strengthen not just individual players, but our entire team culture. Students will be encouraged to think critically about what makes a great leader, how they can support each other, and how to overcome obstacles with determination and integrity.

Our athletes are extraordinary. They balance academics, athletics, family responsibilities, and personal challenges every day — often with little recognition for the dedication it takes to do it all. They are natural leaders by example in our school, whether they realize it yet or not. This project will help them see their potential more clearly and help them develop a lifelong connection to reading, learning, and growth. Your support will help us build a culture where young athletes see literacy and leadership as lifelong skills — and see themselves as powerful forces for good in their classrooms, their teams, and their communities.
