Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I propose we provide all students with an equal opportunity to meaningful education, regardless of their background, financial situation and/or disadvantages.

My students are predominantly Hispanic children.

They are the sons and daughters of hard working immigrants, people who have risked their lives to provide their children with a better tomorrow. Legal or not, they deserve an opportunity for success and a chance at higher learning. My students bring a wonderful set of experiences, traditions and funds of knowledge that enrich our school and each other's daily lives. Our school is only about five years old and beautiful, yet is lacking the necessary funds and materials.

My Project

For most of my students, books are a luxury. They are the stories that brighten their days, that make them laugh, fly and spark their creativity. In my classroom, meaningful and authentic literature is what drives many of our lessons and projects. If these books were available in our classroom, we would be able to expand our library to include quality books in both languages for the students to enjoy and learn from (students are allowed to rent books from the class). Also, we will be able to conduct literature circles as well as numerous reflection activities based on the books for students to practice their writing and critical thinking skills.

Donations have the ability to have a great impact in the lives of my students and myself.

They will place much needed resources in the hands of children eager to learn. Any donation means a new opportunity for knowledge and memories, that otherwise would be impossible or limited. All students have the right to quality education regardless of socio-economic status.
