My Project

My 4th and 5th-grade students are excited to be part of our after-school Little E-League esports program, where they represent our school while competing against other elementary students across Oklahoma through OKSE. Our students come together as teammates, build friendships, solve problems, communicate, and learn good sportsmanship. For many of them, esports gives them a school activity they are genuinely excited to be part of and motivates them to work toward a common goal.

One of the greatest impacts of our esports program has not been on the screen, but in the classroom.

Students must meet academic and behavior expectations to participate, including working toward their Accelerated Reader (AR) goals. We have seen esports motivate students to read more, reach their AR goals, and work to remain academically eligible for their team. This motivation has contributed to growth in our students' reading levels and has shown us how powerful esports can be when it is connected to academics. Students are learning that being a good teammate means putting in effort both during competition and in the classroom.

A Nintendo Switch 2 will allow us to expand the opportunities available to our Little E-League students and give them the equipment needed for supported esports competitions. My goal is to ensure that students can participate regardless of whether their families can afford gaming equipment at home. With your help, we can continue turning our students' excitement for gaming into motivation for reading, learning, teamwork, responsibility, and school success. For our students, leveling up in the game can also mean leveling up in the classroom.
