This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

How many more do I need to get to 10? What do these two numbers add up to? How much money does this cost? Counting, adding and all mathematical problem solving (money, time, fractions) are all important skills we use daily throughout our lives. This is why we need engaging math manipulatiaves to help us develop these essential abilities.

My students are bright, motivated, and one-of-a-kind individuals.

They put a smile on my face each and every day, and they all enjoy coming to school and succeeding in the classroom. I feel so blessed to be their special education teacher and I am lucky to work in such a rewarding field.

Even though it has become extremely difficult and sometimes frustrating to educate without needed supplies, our students still come to school eager to learn. Our school rarely has extra funding for enriching material and if they do, the funds are used for older students. Many of my students' families will never have additional money to purchase educational materials; therefore, I hope to be able to provide a fun and interesting way of learning, so my students can succeed in life.

My Project

As a reading teacher, I always struggle to find the perfect math materials to meets my diverse students' needs everyday. I feel like I am always second guessing myself or always attempting to make a variety of hand made centers that are already made and perhaps have been perfected by companies. I have seen something called math talks which can be done during carpet time or guided math time.I would love to have the opportunity to be able to incorporate these math talks into my classroom.

As students reason about math situations or problems and collaboratively discuss their math thinking, they develop communication skills, sharpen their mathematical reasoning, and enhance their social awareness.

By doing so, I would allow those students whom are strong in math to share with other students. Also, those students that are struggling could benefit from listening to these math talks in small groups. This company has included a variety of items in this math kit, which I believe could and will be beneficial to all of my students.
