Help me give my students a book display shelf and social emotional books to help them cope with the stressors and relate to the experiences they are going through in their daily lives.
Our school strives to reach the needs of each individual child. Every child has capabilities, talents, and strengths; sometimes, all it takes is exposure, motivation, and access to resources. The students in my class strive to be their best not only when it comes to academics but also when it comes to being kind, caring, responsible, and respectful learners. We truly are a family.
My class this year will consist of around 23 amazing students, each with their own unique background.
Of those 20+, many will speak a native language other than English and may receive resource services and/or speech services. More than a third of students from my school come from low-income households. Each of these students are individuals but together we will work hard, have fun, make memories, and have experiences that will follow them years beyond their time in the classroom.
My Project
These books and book display stand will continue to enhance the literacy-rich classroom environment that I strive to create. My classroom library is a place that I hope my students can all find books they love, relate to, and can enjoy. We are beginning to incorporate more Social Emotional Learning into our school days because it is a difficult time to be a young child. Kids these days endure stressors, feelings, and hardships that are hard to imagine. My goal is to have books that build on our Social Emotional Learning curriculum that they can relate to or see themselves in. I read on the carpet to my students, they read independently, and they read with a partner daily! We need lots of books to keep these students invested in growing their reading skills. Every student book that is placed in my library is treated with love and care, and they are thankful for the opportunities to read. All of these books have been chosen with my students in mind. Students will be able to choose books, which will help them continue to enjoy independent reading time.
It is a hard time to be a kid and my goal is to give them books where they can relate to characters who are experiencing the same feelings and emotions.
The best way to increase reading ability is to read more, and these books will continue to help my students grow stronger in reading and also in regulating their feelings and understanding experiences they are going through. This project will only help enrich their experiences with the printed word.
