My Project

The special education department, and more specifically, our students with higher needs, has a wonderful opportunity to run and manage a school spirit store. This store will provide all students and families with an opportunity to purchase school spirit items to wear and display. This store will afford our special education department opportunities to take our higher need students out on meaningful field trips and other off-campus opportunities to increase their exposure to job opportunities for post-high school. But most importantly, our students will learn important and usable skills that will afford them work opportunities in their future.

Learning how to work in a retail environment will provide our special education students with meaningful opportunities and exposure to future job opportunities.

The materials requested for this project will allow my students to build and design our school's retail store. To display our products, shelving is necessary so that students and families can browse our selections. We are also looking at making our store mobile within the campus, so having a portable table and desk will help our students utilize the cash register and display products in a remote area of the school. The products and materials listed are for the students to build their own store and to learn job skills for their futures outside of high school.
