Let's Pretend: Grocery Shopping!

Help me give my students materials to learn financial literacy through pretend grocery store items, cash register, and ATM machine.

My Project

My students have inquisitive minds and I believe that they can do great things. Our school is made up of students who come from diverse ethnic backgrounds. They come to school eager to learn, to show what they know, and what they can do.

My students are hardworking, confident, active, and with minds that are like sponges that absorb so much from the learning experiences presented to them.

They amaze me with how much they learn each day! Their ability to do math is improving each day as we practice counting, simple addition, and subtraction each day. I would love for you to join me in making it possible for them to start learning financial literacy at this early age at school. By providing our classroom with pretend grocery items and grocery baskets, they will be able to do what adults do: grocery shopping! This activity is very relatable to children because they would tag along with parents for grocery shopping trips and watch them shop for food to fill their pantry. They observe them use money they withdrew from an ATM machine or use debit cards to pay for the items at the cash register. They need some wallets to carry their money and calculators to make sure they have enough play money to pay for their items. I hope that you can join me in making this exciting learning opportunity happen in my classroom!
