Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students are in second grade and half of them have a primary language other than English. Our school has the highest immigrant population of any school in our district, and we are located in a commercially developed area in the heart of our city. We are centrally located on the edge of urban and suburban neighborhoods. We have a very diverse ethnic student population including 50.6% Black, 19.7% Hispanic, 20.5% White, and 8% Multiracial. All of the students in our building receive free breakfast and lunch daily.

My Project

I am requesting recess equipment for our 2nd grade team. We have a great playground, but we are in need of dodge balls, basketballs, football, soccer balls, jump ropes, and storage for these items. This will provide our students with fun activities at recess. Research shows how critical recess is and how play time and social interaction with our peers transfers to success in the classroom. We have basketball hoops, but we do not have basketballs. We have a field, but do not have soccer or footballs. We also have a dodge ball court, but once again need dodge balls. This donation will provide our boys and girls with the resources they need to have fun, let out their energy, and be successful!
