My Students

Imagine being a first grader that can't read the books that the rest of the class is reading. The words are just too big. The sentences are just too long. Please, help my first graders who struggle with reading!

I work with 30 wonderful first graders at a charter school in Ohio.

My students come from homes that have very little. Some of my students come to school without any school supplies, in the same clothes they've worn all week, or without breakfast. Most of the students receive breakfast and lunch from the school. I do my best to provide the students with the necessary school supplies to get them through the year. The best thing about the students is that, even with little, they have huge hearts!

My Project

The 4 CD players and books on CD will allow my students who struggle with reading to enjoy a book that they might not be able to read on their own. It will teach them new words as they listen to the story and follow along in the book. They will also be able to take an Accelerated Reader quiz (to test their reading comprehension skills) once they've listened to it on CD. Being able to choose books that were once beyond their reading level will boost their confidence and hopefully foster a lifelong love for reading!

These materials will be very helpful to all of my students - especially my students who struggle with reading.
