My Project

Teaching has definitely changed in the past 25 years! I remember when writing notes (with a pencil!) and talking when the teacher was talking were the major offenses. Now any communication between students would be welcomed!

More than ever, my students need to ditch the distraction of the digital world and discuss with fellow students!

Our high school has the greatest number of English Language Learners in our district, and giving students the opportunity to cooperate in small-group escape rooms helps them to learn from one another. Studying another language or reviewing demanding classroom topics is always more fun with a game.

The cell phone lock box I'm requesting is a perfect blend of autonomy for the student (they will have the key) and peace for the teacher (I won't have to fight their phones). But now that they don't have a phone, what to do? Escape Room! Escape Rooms are a fun way to collaborate and discuss as students review and learn. The tools I'm asking for, like the number and word locks, will make my escape rooms more like the "real" thing. (It would be ironic if I had them lock up their phones and then do digital escape rooms on their computers.) Help me make their escape room experience as authentic as possible!
