Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

I work in a great community that could really use some extra love and support. The young leaders in my school have great potential and is eager to learn something new. Majority of my children come from low income families while living in at risk communities with food deserts. It is important that these children are able to start to learn about healthy eating at a young age. My school does everything to provide a nurturing environment . However, at times we need a helping hand to get the best for our children.

A new "Cooking Cart" area in our school.

We want to connect at home learning to cooking with students. This new center with in our school is in need of new: pots and pans, storage containers, youth and adult aprons. kitchen appliances and utensils dress up clothes that are new, will bring life back into our at home play center.

Having a cooking cart and materials provides are teachers the opportunity to incorporate math and science with cooking at home into the school.

My Project

Let's get Cooking educates and empowers children and families to make healthy food choices through hands-on learning with fresh foods. During Open House, Preschool Night , we will provide parents cooking demonstrations for Academic Parent Teacher Team night to improve students skills using math concepts and science.

Cooking keeps the students engaged.

It is a great way to build parent engagement and also interactive skills that can be done at home use what the students grow in our school garden, giving them the opportunity to enjoy fresh, seasonal produce while practicing math, reading, and life skills.
