Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I recall the days of learning math through a textbook (our only resource). Hands on interactive games would have given purpose to these lessons. Students today need the same hands on connection to comprehend each lesson and apply it to their lives.

My students attend a large public school and most of them qualify for free lunch.

Many of our students are English Language Learners. Due to the income level of their families, many of them have limited opportunity to visit museums and participate in hands on activities that are so crucial to learning in today's fast paced environment.

My Project

These interactive math games/activities will reinforce instruction in the following areas (problem solving, money(ways to show the same amount), elapsed time, real world mental math). These are difficult concepts/skills for 2nd grade students to grasp. Students will use these games/activities in their daily math centers. They will work cooperatively to play the game/complete the activity with their team.

These donations will significantly enhance my math learning centers.

Students who are engaged and working in small groups will have a better understanding OR finally have their "ah ha," or "Now, I get it!" moment. As students work in small teams with a group leader, they learn to support and assist each other when needed. Students will benefit from the opportunity to work cooperatively, which is crucial for today's world.
