My Students

When you wrote a story in school, the audience was usually the teacher and it might have gotten hung up in the hallway. Students now can have the whole world as their audience when podcasting and creating digital stories, but my class does not have the iPods needed to tell their stories.

My classroom consists of very low socio-economic students that are motivated to use technology.

We live in a rural area and most of my students do not have computers or other technological devices to use at home. I have an inclusive classroom so all students, no matter what their ability, have reading and language arts with me."

My Project

By having a fully inclusive classroom, I have students at many different levels. I give the students plenty of opportunities to write and have me as their audience. It is time we make a change. Students need to have other people hear their thoughts in this digital age. Some of my students are unable to write a full story, but they can sure tell a good one. Students will record their voices into the iPod voice memo and save into a computer. Then, they will create a movie with pictures and sound with their voice memo telling the story throughout the entire movie. Finally, they will post these to the web for all to see, hear and enjoy. Students love to do this and they need to be heard to express themselves. By receiving an iPod, the students will be able to tell their story, share their opinions, and let their voice be heard throughout the world.

To prepare our students for the future, they need to be sound in creating and applying technology through many applications.

To have this opportunity in elementary school, this will give the students a great start to understand the impact one of them can have on many. Letting their voices be heard is essential in promoting high self-esteem, as well as giving the students an outlet to share their stories.
