Our students are fun-loving, happy, and motivated to succeed, but many struggle substantially. They come from a variety of backgrounds that can make it very difficult for them to excel, but that doesn't stop them from trying! Most of our kids are second language learners, and belong to families with limited incomes. The area around our school is known to be high risk for gang activity, so after school activities help keep them in a safe environment.
I want these precious students to feel like our school is a place of hope, a place where they can express themselves and thrive.
I want them to wake up in the morning happy to come to school!
Our school became a Disney Musicals in Schools recipient 5 years ago, but we are now running the program entirely on our own. Making it work financially has not been easy. We are trying to sustain this program because we believe in it, and we have seen the difference it makes in our students. Many of our performers struggle significantly in academics and often have severe behavior problems in the classroom, but when they are on stage in the Disney musical, they rise to the occasion and just SHINE! It's amazing what a structured performing arts program can do for them! These kids develop confidence, and find a purpose - it is truly awe-inspiring. In order to continue with our mission and provide these students with a quality program, we need the equipment to do so, and these mics would help tremendously!
