My 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders have all qualified for the talented and gifted program that our district offers. I am their gifted teacher and together we problem solve, create, imagine, explore, research, and build!
My students are special because they have a thirst for knowledge and are curious learners!
They come to my class one day a week and are often working on projects that they started the week before. While they are with me, we are working on science and social studies standards for their grade level along with standards for our gifted program which include: advanced communication skills, advanced research skills, and creative problem solving skills.
What makes our classroom different is that we aren't looking for the one right answer, but rather for multiple ways to solve problems, ideate, brainstorm, and create!
Learning in our classroom never gets boring because we get to think outside of the box and dive deep into interesting topics!
My Project
We currently have a Makerspace area in our classroom that houses a variety of hands on materials. We have LEGOs, pattern blocks, and K'nex to build with using the engineering process.
The ten drawer storage cart we would love to add to our classroom will hold and organize our LEGOs.
Right now, all of our LEGOs are in one big bin and it takes my students a long time to sift through them to find the exact color and piece they are searching for. We also step on them because they end up on the floor! Ouch! We plan on organizing each drawer by color so that they will be able to quickly and efficiently find just what they need! Each drawer will also be labeled with color coded labels to help speed the process up even more!
We also have an origami bin in our Makerspace area, that is completely out of paper! We would love to restock with a variety of sizes and vivid colors!
