Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a dyslexia interventionist in a school that is over 90% economically disadvantaged. I teach a special population of these students who struggle with a reading disability and need small group intervention. We work on decoding skills, handwriting skills, and spelling to help bring them to grade level with their peers.
I want to create a warm, welcoming, and academically rich environment in which these students can thrive and feel supported.
These materials will help them experience academic success along with a personal sense of achievement and accomplishment.
My Project
Dyslexic brains work differently. Students with dyslexia are intelligent and creative but need extra attention in order to master their reading skills. The materials for this project will be utilized as resources for intervention and organization purposes.
Dyslexia intervention uses a multisensory approach to learning.
The bubble pop fidget toys will be used for spelling practice and help the student fully engage all of their senses in the learning process and provide support for memorization and mastery of concepts. Also included is a set of Hank books written by Henry Winkler. These books are specifically written for students with learning differences. The flashcards and bingo game are for sight word instruction. The markers, erases and magnetic squares are also used to enhance the multisensory aspect of learning.
