Most of my bilingual 2nd graders have never had hands-on learning tools before. Your support entirely changed what math class looked like for my students. For the first time, we were able to run math centers, which meant students could independently explore and build upon math concepts while I ran small group interventions.\r\nHere is a moment that will stick with me. During our recent geometry unit I set out the Giant Magnetic Tangrams at a center and let students work. One of the concepts the students needed to learn in this module was that triangles are the basis for other polygons. Before I gave them any direct instruction, the students figured this concept out on their own and excitedly pointed out their work to me and couldn't wait to record it in their math journals.\r\nWhen a new module started and it was time to open a new set of materials, my students could barely wait. They asked about the boxes all year long and knew something good was coming. For children who don't have learning materials at home, that excitement was real and it never wore off, even toward the end of the year.\r\nThese materials will stay in our classroom and continue supporting student learning. The place value blocks, fraction circles, money sets, and number bonds have built a concrete foundation that will carry directly into 3rd grade math. My students now know what it feels like to understand something with their hands first. That's not a small thing.","fullyFundedDate":1746503970511,"projectUrl":"project/put-math-in-our-hands/9292745/","projectTitle":"Put Math in Our Hands","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Scott","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp5667680_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1545073359091","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/scottonfire"},{"teacherId":5667680,"projectId":9329033,"letterContent":"I am incredibly grateful for your generous support in funding this project for my classroom.
