My Project

If you ask a first grade teacher what their favorite part of their job is, chances are they will probably tell you watching a student put it all together. There is something magical about the moment that students are able to put all of their knowledge about letters and sounds together to read a word, sentence or a book independently.

I am looking to provide my students with new, engaging materials that will help them learn the important building blocks they need to be a successful reader.

Your donation to this project will allow my students to have fun and engaging materials such as magnetic tiles and dominoes that they can use to apply the letter/sound patterns that we are currently working on during small group instruction. These activities will allow students to have a chance have a tactile and kinesthetic way of building and manipulating words.

Your donation to this project will also allow our class to have a brand new Hand2Mind Phonemic Awareness and Phonics Toolkit to use with our small group instruction. This toolkit is filled with many mini-lessons that are aimed at providing students direct, explicit instruction on the phonics and phonemic awareness areas that they may be struggling with. The kit includes additional hands-on materials and activities for students to use to practice building and manipulating words.

The more opportunities students have to understand how words are built and how the letter-sound patterns work, the better reader they will become. Thank you for helping us develop a love of reading!
