My Project

This school year looks a little different from most. With limited additional classroom support and a wide range of learning needs, my first grade scholars will need opportunities to develop independence, responsibility, and confidence in their ability to learn.

In first grade, independence must be explicitly taught, practiced, and celebrated.

My goal is to create systems that allow scholars to think, create, problem solve, and continue learning even when an adult cannot immediately provide one on one assistance.

The Teachers Pay Teachers gift card will allow me to purchase engaging, differentiated resources throughout the year based on the needs of my scholars. These may include independent learning centers, literacy and math activities, task cards, hands on projects, early finisher activities, and materials scholars can complete with minimal adult assistance. Having these resources readily available will help students know what to do next and remain meaningfully engaged while I am working with other scholars or small groups.

The fidget prizes and treats will support our classroom reinforcement system. Scholars can earn incentives for completing independent tasks, following routines, persevering when work becomes challenging, transitioning successfully, and demonstrating responsibility for their own learning.

With these resources, I hope to hear less “What do I do now?” and more “I know what to do!” as my scholars learn to lead their own learning.
